Toys Long ago, tractor manufacturers found it beneficial to offer the little farmers replicas of Dad's equipment. Tractors were the first toys offered and the matched working equipment soon followed. Many hours of imaginary farming and countless thousands of imaginary acres were farmed by these future farmers. Of course, being meant as playthings for children, most toys met with disaster in one form or another and very few truly vintage toys have survived to this day. Manufacturers constantly update their offerings of equipment so the toys themselves changed to keep up with the real machines. After some years passed, the first few brave collectors cautiously ventured into dealerships to purchase a toy "for the grandkids". Well, it didn't take long for the dealer to figure out that Farmer Brown simply did not have that many grandchildren! So the farmer must be purchasing the toys for himself! Imagine that! Of course today, toy collecting is a respected hobby and even the most hopeless collector no longer needs to skulk in and out of toy stores attempting to hide his shameful obsession. As with anything, low production numbers and condition drive the value of a toy. Limited editions and highly detailed models have been introduced by the toy companies and have been quite successful. Nostalgic yearnings and the explosive growth of the vintage tractor hobby have resulted in the reintroduction of toys of tractors from long ago. Hardly a day goes by that we don't hear "When are they going to make…." That is the interesting part of this segment of the hobby, trying to second-guess what new toys will be introduced and when. It is usually an exciting time when new toys arrive at the dealership. And woe be to the collector who hesitates in purchasing a desired toy while they are available. This can be a costly mistake!
